Owner Of Aggressive Dog Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

The owner of an aggressive dog was taken into custody Saturday after he allegedly became disorderly, verbally assaulting police officers.

An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department was called to East Heights Street shortly after 2:00 p.m. A resident reported that while she was in her yard she had been approached by a Pit bulldog that she recognized as belonging to a neighbor.

She told the reporting officer she tried to run the dog off of her property, but that he moved toward her in an aggressive manner, baring his teeth and growling.

She said that shortly afterwards the owner came to retrieve the dog. The victim told the officer that similar incidents had occurred in the past.

The officer reported making contact with the dog owner at his residence. He indicated that when confronted the owner, fifty-nine year old Michael Maurice Kelley, became angry.

He reportedly began to shout at the officer while clenching his fists in an aggressive manner, then ordered the officer to leave his property.

The reporting officer indicates that he left the driveway and stood beside his patrol car while he awaited the arrival of other officers.

All the while, he said Kelley continued to shout at him. When the other officers arrived Kelley was placed under arrest on charges of disorderly conduct.

Kelley was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center without further incident. He is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 7, 2013.
